Why am I doing this blog? Years ago my oldest sons wife (Sandra) asked me to write a cookbook so she would have a way to re-create the food Chris grew up on. They had gotten married and he was homesick for moms food, they lived 1600 miles away from us so it wasn’t really practical for him to be able to just stop by and have something to eat when the urge hit him. Each year Hubby and I would do our vacation up at their house and I would have a ball cooking all the foods he missed, I loved doing that because I really love being in a kitchen. As I grew older I thought about the day that hubby and I might not have the ability to make those trips and I wanted them to have access to the things they remembered. A book wasn’t on my agenda but I was always hearing about this blogging that people were doing all over the net. I asked Chris if he could set one up for me and overnight he did it so here I am, typing away at my speedy 20 words a minute (almost my best typing time from high school over 40 years ago) and having fun remembering all the great meals with my boys at the table.
All of my dishes are not resounding successes but most are good, some are great…..just ask my kids.
I am the mom of three grown sons that make me proud of them every day, they have grown into amazing men and great fathers. I think that has more to do with the great father they have than with with any credit I could take for the way they turned out. I can take credit for the fact that they are very comfortable in a kitchen and can turn out great meals.
We have 6 grandchildren who we love and it is really true what they say about “grandchildren being the reward for not killing our own children”, they are all rambunctious, bright and fun, the energy level they have astounds me and makes me wonder how we ever kept up with their parents when they were that age………it makes me tired to just think about it.
I started this blog so my children and their children will be able to look at it and remember the meals I served, and so my friends can look to see if there is a dish they want to try. I will try to list all the equiptment I use for each dish so you know if you happen to have it laying around the house you will now have a use for it. I can honestly say I have never cooked from a recipe although I do have a collection of cookbooks, I find them great for inspiration but not to actually cook from. I hope you enjoy reading here and maybe you’ll find a use for that great kitchen gadget you just had to have, you know, the one that’s still in the box sitting on a shelf somewhere.
If there is a specific dish you are wanting to make please write me and maybe I have made it before and have a tried and true recipe for you, either that or it just may end up on our dinner table if it is something I’ve made before, that way you will also see what the finished dish looks like. While I can make fancy foods hubby likes really simple things so that is where my cooking is mainly focused, if there is a fancy dish you would like to ask about then just drop me an email. I really hope that if you happen to wander over to this blog that you enjoy it and the foods if you try them.
